In Memory of Mina “Polly” Hurdman
1948 – 2026

Polly played a full part within the Gloucestershire ukulele community. She would always be one of the first to volunteer for gigs. Even when she stopped playing Polly tried to attend an occasional outside gig. Her last gig with Cheltenham Ukulele Group was at Nazareth House in the summer of 2025.
As many of you know Polly was with ‘Friends Ukenited’ from the very early days, helping to raise money for excellent causes. She will be sadly missed by her many ukulele friends, near and far.
During COVID Polly attended our weekly ZOOM sessions, enjoying the quizzes and singing along at home.
Although Polly didn’t restart ukulele after COVID she would send messages hoping gigs went well, send prizes for our Christmas raffles and be genuinely interested in the life of the club.
Polly was always up for trying something. She joined us on the annual trip to Wales in 2019 where she had a great time with her usual ukulele friends as well as making new friend from The Jumping Fleas. They introduced us to the song ‘House of Gold’ which Polly enjoyed singing.
Polly was a very caring person. This extended beyond people she knew directly. She would remind the group about saving Christmas Cards for the COBALT unit and more recently collecting sweet tubs for Green King Pubs.
