Virtual ‘PUNK and NEW WAVE’ open mic night
July 13, 2020 –
As you know our last proposed theme open mic night, ‘PUNK and NEW WAVE’ had to be cancelled with the introduction of lockdown. However, now it’s back - a virtual ‘PUNK and NEW WAVE’ open mic night will be held over Zoom on Monday 13th July 2020 instead of a quiz.
So we are looking for punk songs by The Sex Pistols, The Dammed, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Iggy Pop etc. as well as by more modern punk bands like Green Day and Blink 182. We are also looking for songs by ‘New Wave’ artists such as The Police, Elvis Costello, Blondie, Talking Heads, The Stranglers etc. (And if you’re thinking that these songs aren’t appropriate for the ukulele can I remind you that the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain do songs by The Sex Pistols and The Clash!)
If you previously submitted a song to Graham for the cancelled open mic you are welcome to do that same song at the virtual open mic. To register your song send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and Peter will compile a list of songs and performers to present on the night. At this stage, we will restrict you to one song per person (although this may be relaxed depending on how many people volunteer).
(We are all still on tenterhooks to hear Musty doing Tom Robinson’s ‘Glad To Be Gay’…)
